All Airtel Cells Down! atleast in Mumbai (Updated)
Update 1.42PM: Business Standard has an update here. Though we didn't get a reply form Airtel CS yet seems that a company spokesperson told BS that some equipment has to be shut down due to a Short-Circuit resulting in Fire at a Lower Parel building. The services are supposed to be live in 45mins (which actually got over some 15mins back as the BS story is timed 12.43PM). Both Airtel lines in our office are down for now. Hoping that things get back to normal soon.
Though claims are that some parts of the city are affected, we hear complains form Andheri aswell as Nariman Pt. Also see the Reuters report.

Update 8:41PM: Airtel CS replied to our complaint over email saying that the lines may be down due to temporary CONGESTION!! All we can say is, come-on stop fooling around with your customers.
July 19 Update: Ok, We thought it was a happy ending late evening yesterday. But I ran into a couple of friends last night (aroudd midnight) and they were still complaining! Apparently they were facing problems making and receiving calls from networks other than Airtel.
The good old newspapers tell me that the fire at Peninsula Chambers which spread to the Airtel office, actually damaged 2 of their servers. Though we are not the best people to talk about server backups and maintenance, consumers surely expected better. It is being said that it would take 8-10 days to restore full service.
